Italy is the homeland of innumerable architects and interior designers. Among the most famous ones stands out the name of Gaetano Pesce.
Born in La Spezia, Gaetano Pesce started his activity during the 60’s, realising great pieces of design destined to impress the national and international market. His remarkable work has been recognised with important award winning designs, such as Chrysler Award for Innovation and Design, the Architektur and Wohnen Designer of the Year, and the Lawrence J. Israel Prize from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.
The secret of his success consists in his ability of surprising his public with groundbreaking and revolutionary pieces of modern art, that make his creations unique and inimitable.
Since the beginning of his career, he has given a proof of his astonishing, odd and eccentric spirit. In “Manodidio” ashtray (1969) he realised the hand of Jesus Christ on the Cross, with a realistic reproduction of the wounds of Christ’s passion in the human body, which elevates this piece of design as one of Pesce’s most impressive creations.
A completely different example of modern art is given by “Senza fine Unica”, an armchair in polychrome PVC, which undefined boundaries break all the rules of geometrical regularity.
Another piece of stunning modern art is represented by a chair in polyurethane resin, that consists in a reproduction of a devil face, which gives the name to the furniture itself.
Recreation of spirit entities and human faces are a constant in his eclectic creations. This clearly emerges in one of his last pieces of design: a mirror that shows the face of a girl with an engaging smile, emphasized with a brilliant red lipstick. A superbe piece of art that would impress even the most skeptical audience.
The reproduction of girls faces are the main subjects of other furnitures made by Pesce, such as “Some of us”, an irregular lamp in resin (2010) and “Nobody’s perfect” armchair (2002).
The ones presented in this article are only some of the most byzarre Pesce’s pieces of art.
