Fashion, we use it to express ourselves. And boy, do we. From the depths of ourselves, we look for the things that define us. Looking for a way to paint the picture we have of ourselves for the world. Or at least the picture we want to show. Wrapping our bodies in the outfits of “trends” and painting our faces in our idea of beauty. Wonderfully, unique. Sometimes similar but never the same. We inspire, in vision and create. Leaving the world with a movie of who we want to be with every pass.
Let’s take our brushes and paint
Take our brushes and paint. Letting ourselves be inspired by our role models, icons, heroes, moms. With grace, like Gigi Hadid was captured by Patrick Demarchelier during this moment for Vogue Germany. In vision so regal yet strong. Paying tribute to the iconic Gianni Versace. An image that will be hard to forget. A fragment of the movie made that day. Yet overflowing with the appreciation for the icon, you can’t miss it, even if your eyes are shut.
Unique in our own self. In all the shapes, sizes. In control of our own narrative. Expressing ourselves with the craziest colours shaping our view. Powerful and strong is what that could look like. Just as shown by Vittoria Ceretti for W Magazine’s 2018 February edition, through the incredible photographic lens of Mert & Marcus.
All we do with a head held high. Gracefully gliding over the labels tried upon us. Showing the world, a piece of our movie, always deciding how and if it can fit into our film. And not the other way around. Knowing there’s no such thing as too much. Whimsically layering out our own masterpiece. With nothing more than a smile upon our face. Like a smile frozen in time. Just as the way Josh Olins captured Adut Akech’s beam for US’s 2019 Vogue January edition.
Contrast, Harmony, Classic, Elegance
We surprise. Or at least, we could. In the simplicity of a sophistication that stands out from the crowds. Like the contrast of black and white together. Opposites, yet as classic as the harmony of Yin & Yang. While the world may never understand where the pep in our step comes from, while we skip around our panoramic scenes. So effortless and elegant like Karlie Kloss was shot in 2014 for US’s Vogue.
All in all, Fashion. Or the way we paint ourselves, and the clothes we bathe in, are nothing more than our creative minds. Wandering through the depts of our own minds. Dipping our toes in the waters and pushing the boundaries of how we should look. And for the question of, can we paint our homes the same way we do ourselves.
The answer is, Yes.
