Michael Phelps vs. Chad Le Clos was the main event at the aquatic center on Tuesday night at the 2016 Rio Olympics after Phelps’ angry reaction to Le Clos’ dancing pre-race routine went viral on Monday. The two were next to each other in the pool in lanes 5 and 6 with Phelps winning gold by 0.04 seconds over Masato Sakai from Japan and Le Clos failing to reach the podium. Phelps’ win gave him 20 gold medals, and his celebration in the pool showed how important this win was for him as he avenged his loss in 2012 to Le Clos in the same race.
At the same time there was plenty of fun had with the #PhelpsFace from Monday.
Of course, Crying Jordan made an appearance.

And then general Twitter shenanigans happened.
Barely an hour later, Phelps was back in the pool as the anchor for the 4×200-meter freestyle relay team, and once again, the Americans blew the rest of the competition out of the pool with a convincing two-second win. That pushed Phelps’ gold medal count to an unfathomable 21, and athletes tried to wrap their heads around what Phelps did on social media.
The USA Basketball team was in attendance and many of them posted pics with Phelps in the locker room after his second win of the night. This Olympics will endure for the ages.
