Deser City is a real “Cactus Land” built by the Spanish bureau Garciagerman Arquitectos in the suburbs of Madrid. The building of the experimental garden center for demonstration and breeding of cacti was designed by the architect Jacobo García-Germán.
In the garden are more than 400 species of plants that have come from all over the world. Here you can find spiny representatives of the five continents of the Earth. On the territory of Deser City, succulents grow in special zones, where an arid and semi-arid microclimate is recreated, as close as possible to their natural habitat. Some “flower beds” are covered with sand to reproduce desert conditions, others are covered with soil and gravel.
In addition to the greenhouse and the exhibition center, the main building houses a business center, a restaurant, a shop, an office area and warehouses. The premises are covered with lightweight construction, which protects from the harmful effects of the expressway in the neighborhood. The buildings surround the inner space, the center of which is a separate cactus garden. Here come the newly arrived plants. The greenhouse is covered with a tension roof, which is supported by cables.
