Island of the Dolls, Mexico
The Island Of The Dolls in Mexico is an unhabited island with a sad and creepy story. It tells the tale of a girl that drowned in the canal and all the dolls that kept washing ashore after the incident. The only inhabitant of the island, 50 year old Julian, hung the dolls from the trees to please the spirit of the little girl. However, he was later found drowned in the same spot as the girl. The island is now a tourist attraction and many continue to bring dolls to hang and appease the spirits that live there. There are still reports of dolls moving or whispering to each other… the perfect spot for a spooky Halloween night.

Hoia Baciu Forest, Romania
This one clearly had to join the list. Romania isn’t only one of Prince Charles’ favorite vacation spots, but also the previous home of Vlad Tepes, later known as the inspiration behind Dracula. In this stunning and traditional country, located near Cluj-Napoca, Transylvania, locals call Hoia Baciu Forest the ‘Bermuda Triangle’ of Romania. Locals claim the forest is associated with evil, haunted by people whose souls are trapped there. It’s also been the sight of UFOs and people have even gone missing. Paranormal activity is centered in a barren circle on a plateau in the interior, where no plant life will grow.
LaLaurie Mansion, New Orleans
If you’ve seen American Horror Story: Coven, then you must know the famous sadistic Madame LDelphine LaLaurie and the horrifying things she has done to different slaves in the 1830s. The LaLaurie Mansion is the house of former Madame LDelphine, and is now a tourist attraction that features sightings of phantoms of the slaves tortured there before. People on group tours have fainted or become nauseous.
The Myrtles Plantation, St. Francisville
Built in 1796 by General David Bradford, this spooky location is home to centuries of history and its fair share of paranormal stories. Upon his death, Bradford gifted the plantation to his daughter and her husband, Clarke Woodruff, but the couple didn’t live happily and only one of their children reached adulthood. There are many ghosts on the house, allegedly, especially the one of Chloe, a slave for the family who became Clarke’s mistress. ending up killing the woman and their children, and getting hung by other slaves for it, afraid of what Clarke would do to them after finding out.
The Tower of London, England
The Tower of London was constructed by William the Conqueror in 1078 and ever since then it has been one of the most historical places in England. The building has served various purposes over the centuries – armory, prison, torture and execution room, treasury, royal residence, public records office – but currently holds the title as one of the most haunted places in London.

Edinburgh Castle, Scotland
Edinburgh Castle, constructed 900 years ago as a military fortress, now sitting atop Castle Rock, a volcanic location, and a quite haunted one too. It has seen attacks, executions and murders, which makes this an extremely interesting location for history and paranormal lovers alike. Some of the apparations include Lady Janet Douglas of Glamis, who was burned at the stake for witchcraft, and Duke Alexander Stewart of Albany, who stabbed his guards to death and then burned their bodies.
The Rose Hall Great House, Montego Bay, Jamaica
Rose Hall Great House is a Georgian mansion that was built in the 1770s, and it’s arguably one of the most famous mansions in Jamaica. Beneath the stunning beauty of its entrance and interiors, the house holds many paranormal activity, mostly centered around the legend of Annie Palmer, a.k.a. the White Witch, a voodoo practitioner who arrived in 1820 and killed her three husbands, various lovers, and slaves. Eventually, she was murdered in her sleep by one of her slave lovers, who was also a voodoo practicioner and performed a ritual to keep her in her grave, fearing her return. Rumors say her spirit remains in the house.
The Whaley House, San Diego
This house was considered the most haunted place in the United Statesby the U.S. Commerce Department in the 60s. The house was constructed in 1857 by Thomas Whaley, on a partial cemetery. Over time, the spirits began to pile up and now its the site of numerous sightings, such as James Robinson or “Yankee Jim”, hanged to death off the back of a wagon in 1852 on the home’s property.
The Stanley Hotel, Estes Park, Colorado
The Stanley Hotel in the Colorado Rockies is the hotel that inspired Stephen King’s The Shining, and is a popular destination for ghost hunters. Who wouldn’t love to visit this iconic location? After Stephen King and his wife spent a night here, he got inspired to write one of his most famous books, but this isn’t the only interesting fact about the hotel. Ancient Ram Inn, Gloucestershire, England
This quaint little inn in Gloucestershire receives numerous ghost hunters all through the year. The inn was built on a pagan burial ground in the 12th century and it features some of the most traditional “haunted house” quirks, such as creaky floorboards, musty smells, chilly rooms, and dimly lit hallways. It’s a must for any paranormal lover or just anyone who wants to enjoy Halloween with a spookier vibe this year!
