Today is March 8th which means, it’s International Women’s Day. Celebrated this day every year, in many countries around the world, has been observed since in the early 1900’s.
It commemorates the movement for women’s rights and their social, economic, cultural and political achievements. Is a day when women are recognized for their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political.
It is well known that, throughout history, women have not always had the rights they currently have – even though, some still have a lot to achieve. Women around the world fought for the right to work, to have access to education, to vote, to own property, to equal payment… and a lot more. Year after year, we witness significant changes. We have female astronauts and prime ministers, school girls are welcomed into university, women can work and have a family. Since the 60’s that our place in society has changed, but there is still a long way to go.
Nowadays, International Women’s Day it’s an opportunity for women from around the globe to show their effort, fighting for equality. Women have real choices and i’ts our job – women and men – to make every day an international women’s day. To make a difference and to ensure an equal future for everyone in this world.
Take this day to support and make your woman colleagues feel empowered and strong. This is an advice that we all should follow every day, but today more than ever.
