Similarly to what happened in the previous editions, six acclaimed figures in the Italy design scene were brought together to each choose an anonymous yet promising talent. Andrea Branzi, Piero Lissoni, Luca Nichetto, Art Director Giulio Cappellini, gallerist and contemporary design icon Rossana Orlandi and acclaimed fashion designer Rosita Missoni were the names tasked with the job to find the next big name in the Italian design industry.

I chose Federica Biasi for her quintessential design and poetic ideas, which deliver subtle, yet very particular messages,” commented Andre Branzi, her mentor for the Rising Talent Awards Italy. The designer graduated from Instituto Europeo di Design and after a few years living abroad, she went back to Italy, where she worked as Art Director for Mingardo, while collaborating as a Creative Consultant with various brands, including Fratelli Guzzini. For Maison & Objet 2018, Federica Biasi will be taking an exhibition that tells the story of her own creative background, “with a selection of iconic products from the past, revisited using unexpected materials, as well as a series of exclusive objects designed specially for the occasion.

Antonio Facco, nominated by Giulio Cappellini

When asked why did he nominate Antonio Facco as one of the most promising Rising Talents in Italy, Giulio Cappellini put it simply: “Despite his young age, Antonio Facco is very attentive to changes in contemporary design and to communication. […]  His projects are always surprising because they are the perfect synthesis of his thought process and sensitive nature.” For this next edition of Maison et Objet, “his research will focus on the importance of time and our relation to it in today’s society.” Facco will be presenting a unique exhibition, with a multidisciplinary and participative side to it, where he will be displaying not only product designs, but also interior projects, in order to create a higher engagement rate within its visitors.

Marco Lavit Nicora is a young talent, heir to a long line of Italian designers who have placed function at the core of their practice and who have learnt to use only the best materials and artisans our country has to offer to achieve that vision.” This is how fashion designer Rosita Missoni talks about her nominee, Marco Lavit Nicora. But what will he bring to one of the biggest interior design shows in the world? At Maison & Objet, Nicora will be presenting his Venezia collection, composed by the Reconvexo table, and Atem, a modular sofa. He will also be presenting a new project that is still in development, with a chest of drawers that incorporates a table and a stool.

Architect and designer Piero Lissoni has been working with Kensaku Oshiro for the past eight years, explaining his nomination by stating that “Kensaku Oshiro’s work bridges “the gap between the Japanese and Western perspectives on simplicity/complexity.” For the January edition of Maison et Objet, Kensaku Oshiro “will be presenting some of his most meaningful pieces, inspired by notions he has repeatedly investigated.

Federico Peri, nominated by Luca Nichetto

I’ve noticed in his work a natural inclination to design products as a way to create an experience through materials or the environment produced by the objects themselves.”

It is this type of completely instinctual process that makes Federico particularly interesting on the Italian scene.” At Maison & Objet, Federico Peri will be putting on display his limited-edition products, as well as series-produced pieces. However, all of them are great examples of his research of multifunctionality and lighting, meaning it will be an exhibition not to miss!

Guglielmo Poletti will be showing different pieces from his Equilibrium series at Maison et Objet 2018. What was originally his graduation project at the Design Academy Eindhoven was also his gate to the interior design world, that being the place where he and Rossana Orlandi first met. Aside from his Equilibrium series, Poletti will also be exhibiting several new elements, including a chair and a lamp, which have been added to the original series.
