The house, built in the 1930s, has become a mix of styles over the years. It boasts classic bungalow features, including slate floors and stone fireplaces. At the same time, it also features a nice open layout, perfect to accommodate the tree that is literally growing through the entryway. This open layout and direct contact with nature gives Alex Pall’s house a mid-century feel we can’t help but love. However, it doesn’t stop here, as renovations undergone during the 1980s and 1990s brought an industrial touch to the overall look of the house.

Two years ago, when the Grammy-winning DJ decided to buy the house, he wanted to do a complete renovation, commissioning the project to a professional interior designer. This is where New-York based interior designer Peti Lau comes in.

With her own style – AristoFreak – Peti Lau quickly and swiftly brought her vision inside this 1930s mid-century residence. Deciding to embrace the mix of style which was already going on in the house, the designer decided to approach each interior space as its own environment, mixing different decade styles and colors with her client’s contemporary art collection.

Throughout the house, you can witness a wide variety of styles which Peti Lau combined to emphasize the eclecticism of the house’s architecture. From tropical patterns in the living area to an almost romantic and slightly dramatic master bedroom, you will find that there is nothing boring about this interior decor! One of our favorite rooms, however, has to be the great room. This is the place both the designer and Alex Pall chose to put The Chainsmokers Grammy on display, and the outcome was a colorful, bold room where you can’t miss the powerful green and yellow color palette.

The mid-century modern credenza ‘Monocles‘ by Essential Home is featured in the great room of Alex Pall’s house.

When decorating the great room, interior designer Peti Lau chose Alex Pall’s family art piece as the central piece that would then dictate the overall look and feel of the room. The second step was to complement that powerful painting with an equally bold color plette, going with Benjamin Moore’s Polo Blue for the walls as so create a statement and “a sense of sexiness and masculinity,” as the designer so well put it. Choosing Essential Home’s Monocles mid-century sideboard came as an easy task for both the designer and The Chainsmokers’ DJ.

The mid-century sabot lets, the brass circle scale just worked so perfectly with the natural stones and was a perfect place for that piece. Great spot to showcase the Grammy!” said interior designer Peti Lau.

Alex Pall was very much involved throughout the whole design and decoration process and clearly stated he wanted something sexy and cool to be chosen for the great room, and according to Peti Lau, “this was the perfect mid-century inspired piece to use as the elements of chic and sexy.” The sabot legs and the brass circle scale definitely did wonders for the design of the room, as it worked amazingly with the natural-stoned floor and the dark background.

As for the ambience created around Monocles, the designer pointed out that both the wooden sculpture and the little dry air plants and succulents brought the outdoor to indoor contrast to the brash and shine of the credenza.”  Next to it, we can see The Chainsmokers’ Grammy and two vintage 60’s marble candle holders which definitely came in as the finishing touch. Finally, you can’t miss the skate board, which “has always lived in between that nook.”
